Honda CBR500

2013 Honda CBR500:

After a lot of speculation and Honda’s best efforts to keep its new model range hidden from the prying eyes of the motorcycle paparazzi, the first clear images of the new CBR500 line-up have eventually surfaced over the internet. Our friends at Italian website Motociclismo leaked first shots of the CBR-family which will be added to the Honda 2013 line-up and is expected to make its world debut at the EICMA show in Milan next month. There are a total of three new street models including the sporty middleweight supersports-like CBR500 complete with a full-fairing, split seat and sporty ergonomics accompanied by a CB500 naked machine taking inspiration from the bigger and badder CB1000R. The third model is a rather interesting addition, the CB500X, which is a middleweight adventure/sports touring machine with its styling identical to the recently released Honda NC700X.

2013 Honda CBR500 Features And Specifications:

All three motorcycles are said to be aimed at the entry level motorcycle buyers in developed and developing markets. The 500cc twin cylinder engine is essentially 2 CBR250R cylinders arranged in a parallel twin layout. So, expect the 76X55 mm bore and stroke layout to be carried over to the 500cc engine as well. Incidentally, this short stroke engine layout has its origins in the top of the line CBR1000RR sportsbike, which also features the same bore-stroke size. Therefore, the new 250cc and 500cc engines’ designs are said to be derived from the top end high performance in-line 4 motor.
On the CBR500R and the other two motorcycles, the 500cc engine is expected to run on 4 valves/cylinder-DOHC layout along with other technological innovations like a spiny cylinder sleeve for better heat dissipation and roller-rocker cam followers. This engine could be mated to a six speed manual gearbox as standard. ABS is expected to be made available on all three motorcycles given the fact that European regulations mandate this safety features on most motorcycles. There are strong indications that these motorcycles will be very competitively priced.
