Renault delivered its 5th instalment to the Indian car market this month, a midsized ‘saloon’ The Scala. Renault Scala India is the re-batched version of Nissan Sunny. Renault Lodgy: 

Renault India which entered the Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment with the Compact SUV, the Duster is now planning to get into the growing MPV segment with the ‘Lodgy’, which is sold under the Dacia brand in international markets. The Lodgy will be a 7-seater vehicle at an expected price range of Rs 7-9 lakh to compete against the segment toppers including Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Innova and recently launched Nissan Evalia. As per the word on the street, Renault Lodgy has got much of its mechanical inspiration from the newly launched, Renault Duster, like the engine that it will be carrying are likely to be the the same, 1.5-litre dCi and the 1.6-litre petrol. The entry level variants (both petrol and diesel) might be offered with a five-speed manual transmission, while the top-end variant might have six-speed transmission just like Renault’s top end ones.

Renault Scala: 

Renault-Nissan joint venture has been flourishing in India and the French automaker has had great progress in hatch section from the Japanese partner. It previously made the Pulse from Nissan’s Micra and now in the making is a Sunny based sedan. Christened, Renault Scala, the French sedan will be positioned above the Sunny, reported Autocar. Borrowing technology from the Japanese counterpart, the Renault Scala will be platformed at Nissan’s Oragadam facility in Chennai. It also sports the same mechanics, interior and powerplant as the Sunny. Powering the Scala will be a 1.5-litre petrol developing 97bhp power and 134 Nm torque and a 1.5-litre dCi diesel motor pumping out 85bhp power and 200 Nm torque. However, Renault may dump the diesel motor like it did with the Pulse. Mated to the engine is a five-speed transmission, and there is news of Nissan testing a CVT for the Sunny, which may be borrowed for the Scala as well.

Akin to its name, Renault Duster is a characteristic SUV with robust 4×4 features. The front throws rugged appearance coupled with the robust looking wheel arches. The front grille is clad in chrome. The side view in turn also enhances the SUV appearance of Renault Duster besides high ground clearance. Renault Dacia Duster is the world’s cheapest SUV. The Diesel powered Renault Duster is expected to be powered by 1500cc Turbocharged Diesel I4 SOHC engine that is able to deliver 85 bhp and 110 bhp power. The 1.5 litre diesel machine has been taken from Nissan Micra. The engine delivering 110 bhp will be the Step 4 version of K9K engine.Renault Duster’s fuel efficiency would in all likelihood be great since the SUV is lighter than other SUVs in India. Initially a 1.5 diesel powered engine will be introduced with Duster in India. This engine will be tuned to two different states putting out two different power outputs (85 bhp and 110 bhp). Expert says that Renault Duster will be capable to deliver 17-19 kmpl mileage on Indian roads.
