BMW 3 Series Convertible:
Despite diesel-haters thinking that diesel technology hasn’t progressed since 1974, the 330d drop-top makes a whole load of sense – the extra torque goes some way to mitigate the added weight of the folding roof for a start. The 330d is still one of the world’s greatest diesels. Performance is even with the heavier convertible roof, with 0-62mph in 6.4s, 155mph top end and 245bhp. It’s the 384lb ft that really makes itself felt though – in-gear on a decent A-road big diesel BMWs are superb. The same 3-litre lump also crops up as the 325d (204bhp), and you get the best of BMW’s big petrols, including the twin-turbo 3-litre six with 306bhp.
